Sometimes it’s nice to have a break and be able to do something a little fun and not so tight and detailed. I have so many pet portrait commissions to do over the next 7 weeks it has been good to take most of the week off and recharge my batteries by playing. Sometimes you can get a little stale painting similar portraits day in day out. Not that I don’t love what I do, but as they say a change is as good as a rest.

The success of Prince’s big watercolour painting inspired me to get my watercolours out. As usual I have had some disasters and some successes. One of the ones I am most pleased with is my hedgehog. I have had a bit of a mental block on painting one, despite many requests to see one in my portfolio. Well today I manage to achieve one that I am pleased with. Meet Horace, well I think that should be his name anyway! Welcome to other suggestions.

I also had a play with a polar bear painting. One was a complete disaster, the other two I am quite happy with. I’d love to know which one you prefer.

I think I prefer the top one, maybe I will release prints of both, undecided yet.

Anyway my holidays are now at an end and I shall be throwing myself back into the pet portraits in earnest next week!
