My new style of Rainbow Watercolour paintings just using black and shades of grey is still proving popular. Since my first pet portrait commission in the style I’ve been adding to the broader range of wild and domestic animals for sale.

I completed ‘Blue hare’ (pictured) earlier in the week as a black and white watercolour and within minutes of publishing it I had a conditional sale. The customer asked if I could add some blue (hence its title) she would probably buy it. I wasn’t sure myself but I went back to the easel and selected an appropriate blue and here is the result. The customer loved and duly completed the purchase and I have to admit I’m warming to it.

When I’ve a spare few hours in between my pet portraits I’ll be further experimenting with other wildlife images adding a second colour, not necessarily blue though, to the black watercolour style.
