My client was the recipient of a pet portrait gift voucher this Christmas just gone. Thye contacted me a few months ago with a beautiful photo of their dog Sam.
He clearly has some sun on him making for some interesting warm highlights on him which I really enjoyed bringing into his painting.
I was unsure on the background and I didn’t think a cold colour would suit him, but I didn’t want it overpowering either. I wanted to use a warm colour to reflect the warm hues in his coat. I was nervous about using the yellow, and the first colour I put don was definitely to dark so I applied some cream and white over it and toned it down a bit. I am really happy with the result.
Gift vouchers make a great gift for any pet lover or wildlife lover, they don’t just have to be redeemed for petportraits, you could always commission a wildlife painting. I have been commissioned to paint foxes, hares, otters and much more.
